Diversity Takes Center Stage at PRSA International Conference

Monday, September 20, 2010

On Saturday Oct. 16, the eve of the PRSA 2010 International Conference, eight public relations and media organizations from the Greater Washington D.C. area will converge for an evening of networking and fellowship at a local lounge. We’re thrilled with PRSA’s involvement in this great event. Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for networking and open dialogue, it’s a chance to foster future relationships amongst related organizations.

In January, the PRSA San Francisco Chapter helped organize a similar event which was a huge success, attracting more than 150 people from nine different organizations. There was so much buzz about all the groups coming together and getting to meet each other, everyone wanted more. Another successful mixer was held in June and plans are underway for 2011.

Never (Ever) Judge a Book by its Cover

As a San Francisco Bay Area native and African-American female, I’ve always considered myself to be open-minded. My parents always reminded me to look below the surface and form my relationships from a person’s character and integrity. Just the other week, I was reminded of this advice.

I was at a dinner meeting for the PRSA San Francisco Chapter’s Diversity Committee.  A  new member joined us and she seemed  to fit right in with the rest of the committee. After the meeting ended, we began to all small talk, specifically about hair.
